International Actress Charlotte Xia

FWM: Share your background.

My name is Ziwei Xia but my stage name is Charlotte Xia. I was born in Jinan and raised in Beijing, China. My mom was a Chinese Traditional Singer and Businesswoman, and my dad was an Artist and Businessman.

FWM: When did you get the “acting bug?”

I loved acting when I was a kid, but I was shy. I dared not to go on stage, so I missed many chances during middle school. My dad gave me constant encouragement and persuasion as I grew up. I decided to go to Hollywood to realize this dream. At first, I moved to California in 2010. I studied at the Department of Motion Picture and Television at the Academy of Art University. Then I moved to Los Angeles in 2012, I learned Music & Art, Musical, Piano, Guitar, Modern Dance and Fashion Design at Santa Monica College. I trained at the Musicians Institute in Hollywood, California. At the end of 2014, I also went to the Barbizon School of Hollywood. I began to step into Hollywood after the ‘2016 Hollywood Showcase’.

FWM: Your background is filled with diversity. You are an International Actress, Published Model, Fashion Designer, Country Singer, and Painter. How has your amazing background in the arts helped your film career?

Movies began to combine musical, broadway, arts or fashion..etc. For example: ‘The Greatest Showman’, ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, ‘What to Watch’ or ‘The Squeeze’, I think the more talent you have, the better you can be in a movie.

FWM: When did you step into the Hollywood scene? Did you face any challenges?

I began to step into Hollywood after ‘2016 Hollywood Showcase’, I have to admit it wasn’t as smooth as I thought it would be. I had countless auditions and countless failures, I almost gave up, but my dad always encouraged me and gave me enough strength not to give up.

When did you get your first break?

In 2017, I was in ‘I love you, America’ as a Union Featured Role. I had no speaking lines, but I got my first SAG-AFTRA Voucher, also I had three close-up shots. It was an important step at the beginning of my acting career.

FWM: Tell us about your role in “I love you, America.” What was it about this role that resonated with you?

I was in “I love you, America” as a Union Featured Role, I had no speaking lines but I got my first SAG-AFTRA Voucher, also I had three close-up shots. It was an important step at the beginning of my acting career.

FWM: How do you describe your style of acting?

I have a great sense of humor, I would say that I’m a comedian.

FWM: What roles interest you? What roles would challenge you as an Artist?

If I have the chance, I’d rather play a role like Wonder Woman.

Any big roles would challenge me because my acting career is just beginning.

FWM: Tell us about your role in Ryan Hansen Solves Crimes on Television.

I was in ‘Ryan Hansen Solves Crimes on Television’ as a Union Featured Role, I played a Police Officer in the very first episode and I remember I had a very special scene with the lead actors. The director let me do an action scene: As a cop, I was going to arrest the criminal, and I had a simple line “Don’t resistance and don’t move” and I was going to catch him, also hold him down on the police car quickly and I was going to handcuff him. I was really nervous but I did it.

FWM: You played a Naval Officer in “Top Gun: Maverick.” How enjoyable was this experience? What did you learn on-set?

I really enjoyed, I’d like to say that Tom Cruise is a wonderful, attractive and professional actor. I deeply felt and learned that a good actor would quickly get into his role, instead of just reciting his lines.

FWM: Why are you a Formidable Woman?

I have a strong heart, I have the spirit of never giving up, and I am always ready to accept and fight all kinds of challenges! Confidence and smile are my weapons of success.

FWM: You have several new films in 2020. Please share the films. Why did you choose these roles?

Besides ‘The Countess’, ‘Tomb’ and ‘Imperium’, I’m going to play a Guest Services Agent in ‘Toll House Horrors’, also I’m going to play Maori Native 1 in ‘Octoroon’. I choose these roles because I wanted to improve my acting skills, I hope that through continuous learning, I can book better roles and have the opportunities to cooperate with some great Hollywood directors and producers.

FWM: What are your goals in 2020?

My goal is at least book one good role in a major film, at least get 5 nominations in some film awards or film festivals, and can be a great actress in 2020.
