New Year, New Norm, New Wardrobe

4 Steps to Transform Your Closet

“New Year, new me”. We are all guilty of saying this before. But, do you really see much change? I know you can agree with me, when I say “the lasting and real change happens when put action behind your goals.

Let me take you deeper… There is no point in trying to change if you have not first changed your behavior and thoughts. Change and transformation starts within you.

One of the hardest things to change or have a new perception about is how you look at yourself. Wanting a new look has to change with your closet – the heart of it all. So of course Formidable Boss I cannot leave you hanging.

Let’s transform your closet so you can become a new you with a new wardrobe!

Step 1: Love You and Your Style

Before you can create a new style, assess what you currently love about your style. Look at what you love about your body. Knowing your body is key to creating a new or better look.

If the top, bottom, or style does not empower you either get rid of it or repurpose it. You can repurpose clothing by having it tailored, add different fabric, or cut away fabric.

Step 2: Create an Hourglass Shape with Your Right Now Body

Admit it, you want that perfect hourglass- or peach- body shape. But when you put clothes on, sometimes you look/feel heavier. Taking care of Step 1 will help you repurpose unflattering clothes. The goal is to use clothing pieces that resonate with your style and fit.

Create hourglass effect:

  • If you are top heavy even out your frame on the bottom
  • If your bottom heavy create more drama in your top half
  • Rule of thumb is proportions
  • Don’t get caught up in getting it right. An hourglass shape is illusive and a trick of the eye.

Look slimmer:

  • Bootcut or straight leg pants are the best for looking slimmer
  • Pair jeans with a blazer that has the cut of an hourglass silhouette.
  • Layering with thin layers and lines can visually make you look slimmer!

Step 3: Look Radiant Naturally by Wearing Your Color

If you have an all black wardrobe, I am going to say it… You should be ashamed of yourself.

Color is what can really make a difference in how you look. It can visually add vibrancy and fun to your look. It really can take years off how you look and be used to accentuate your best areas.

Have you ever saw someone just glowing? It’s because that is literally her color!

One of the simplest ways to find out your color is to look how a color changes the skin tone in your face.

In the mirror with great lighting put an array of different colors under your chin (one at a time of course) and see how it affects your skin tone. You will literally see your skin “turning” colors like a mood ring.

Step 4: Shop Your Closet

Put to action all the hacks, tips, and guidance you learned today. Go to your closet and begin to follow the guide above and start sorting through your clothes.

To make it easy on you to start by thinking about upcoming occasions and events. Or role play with your future self and shop according to your new higher standards.

Use these steps to start transforming your wardrobe and how you feel about yourself. And make sure you slay everyday with style.
