Kim Baker is a New York-based commercial makeup artist and former Wilhelmina Model who specializes in working with celebrities and models. Kim received her big break – working for Hollywood A-Lister Tom Cruise and actor Ving Rahmes for the Mission Impossible movie press junket. And the rest is history … working with everyone from NASCAR driver Danica Patrick, songstress Toni Braxton and singer John Legend to actress Dakota Fanning and radio personality Angela Yee, to name a few, as well as on the countless TV shows including America’s Next Top Model.
Today, Kim has turned her passion for beauty into working with everyday women and has created a cosmetics line to enhance that “special something” she believes everyone has that makes them beautiful – her favorite feature, their personality.
FWM: When did your love for beauty for begin?
My love for beauty began at age 9 with my mother, who was the natural minimalist and my grandmother who was the Beauty me to the Gods makeup lover but unfortunately her obsession with beauty would calm her life due to her use of talc powder . My mom has the most beautiful flawless skin and my grandmother loved clothes, hair and makeup just like me so it’s all because of the two most influential women! My mom and grandmother started my obsession with just loving women.
FWM: You turned her passion for beauty into working with everyday women and have created a cosmetics line to enhance that “special something.” Tell us about GLAMAZON Beauty.
I took my 27 experience of working behind the counters, traveling with celebrities and really listening to what everyday women had to say and what they would repeat is how can we make my routine easier and some would say why can’t people get my undertones right some would say I never see woman who look like me betrayed as a standard of beauty and with my brand I speak to the black woman, I speak to the latin woman I speak to the woman with the real body I am my consumer just give me good products no fluff or BS “Bad Stuff” needed I just want great performance with products not on the bad list I am not perfect but I strive to make my consumer worry less and enjoy and trust that they have quality makeup that doesn’t hurt us! All Beauty is beauty to me, GOD is not in the junk making business and here all beauty matters and yes I happily speak to my transgender sisters as well!
FWM: GLAMAZON Beauty is loved by celebrities. What are their favorite products?
My favorite products are the Second Skin foundation stick which gives the skin a very natural looking glow due to my unique custom formula and my other favorite product is our Eye-Conic Awakening Concealer, lord knows this product is the holy grail for us hard working women. My celebrity clients swear by it, Supermodel Halima swears by our peach corrector; she says she doesn’t love home without it! She is the ambassador for Unicef so her travel schedule is hector and trust me, fatigue will always show in the eyes first!
FWM: Who have you enjoyed working with as a Make-up Artist?
I would have to say Tom cruise and Ving Rahmes for mission impossible 2, they are two of the nicest men ever and I enjoyed working with Singer Lauren Hill and actress Tisha Campbell-Martin – she keeps me laughing. I am presently working with Tisha for the soul train awards and a new tv series but what I enjoy best is working with everyday women they always seem so happy that I am sitting down with them when I don’t think they realize that they are blessing me with allowing me to pass on my knowledge so I would hands down say everyday women are my joy! After all that’s why I started this career was to empower and serve my queens of all ethnicities. It’s a sisterhood!
I have learned to trust my own judgement and take control of your own business and most of all when people show you who they are don’t second guess them …that is who they are! This is one to grow on for sure!
