FWM POWER 20: Shontavia Hornsby

Formidable Woman Magazine’s “POWER 20” Online Magazine spotlights 20 accomplished women making extraordinary strides in their industries. These women inspire the next woman to be bold, to unapologetic, to be great!

FWM: Who is Shontavia and what is your superpower?

I chuckle at this question because a friend nicknamed me “Wonder Woman”.  Shontavia is a God-fearing woman, an educated, compassionate, dedicated, hard- working, strong, and Independent woman. Boldly walking in my purpose, with a get it done, by all means necessary, no excuses attitude! I’m coming for everything they say I couldn’t have, God’s plan!

When I realized my purpose and understood my worth, it immediately became important to me to be an advocate for young girls and women empowerment. We as black women are better when we support each other, uplifting and encouraging, and investing in our younger generation. It is our responsibility to stand up for our rights, break generational curses, educate our youth on financial wealth, healthy eating habits and lifestyles, breaking bondage from unhealthy relationships, becoming CEOs, Doctors, Educators, and community Leaders. Molding our young black and brown daughters to grow into phenomenal women.

Our girls will become what they see!

Every day I strive to become a better version of myself than the day before. If I can pay it forward to just one woman, by being kind, supportive, nurturing, and inspiring. Then my heart is pleased, and my work is done (for the day).

“To whom much is given, much is required.” – Luke 12:48

When you’re a blessing to others, God will bless you in abundance. My superpower is simply being obedient to God’s word! I guess that equates to a “Wonder Woman”, walking in my purpose! 😊

FWM: How can women who want to do what you do gain access and support?

When I founded Raising a Diamond, my main objective was to BE the example our black and brown girls needed to see.  When I was growing up, unfortunately I wasn’t exposed to many educated or successful black women. Mentorship, financial education, guidance counselors, higher education support, positive role models, or any programs for young black girls was non-existent in my community.

I was determined not only was I going to break generational curses in my family, but it was my purpose and responsibility to pay it forward and provide future generations with mentorship. Our young girls, especially in underprivileged communities deserve the opportunity to a bright future. Raising a Diamond girls mentor organization works diligently to contribute to their future success.

I encourage women to join me with empowering our girls by getting involved in our communities.  Connect with schools, after-school programs and local organization that service girls. VOTE be a good example. We have young girls who see us and desire to emulate our every move.  Let’s work together, collaborate and build healthy relationships with one another and use our energy, skills, and time to raise a generation of whole and healed Diamonds.

FWM: You’re a serious BOSS! Tell us, what are you working on and what’s next for you?

Thank you so much, I’m honored to be recognized as a BOSS! I can honestly say God has truly been good to me. Even during this pandemic and uncertain times of Covid-19. I’ve been forced to be still, slow down, meditate, pray and focus on what’s really important.  In this season, many of my goals and prayers have manifested. I’ve prayed for increase in all areas of my life and God opened doors once he knew I was mentally, physically, and spiritually preparedfor the abundance. Even in stillness, there is movement.

My work with Raising a Diamond continues as I create new curriculum for the program.

I’m also excited to announce I have rebranded my business and launched my online boutique, Chayil Boutique. Chayil means Power, Strength, Virtuous, and Wealth.  A Chayil Woman is virtuous, strong and mighty warrior, woman of valor. “She is clothed in strength and dignity and she laughs without fear of the future”- Proverbs 31:25. This name resonated with my spirit and I believe it encompass who Shontavia is!
